A little about us...

Greetings from Blizzard's Huntmore Kennels, caretaker of the Blizzard strain of Llewellin setters and, for more than 30 years, striving to breed the best in companion grouse dogs for some of grouse hunting's most extreme terrain. These Appalachian coverts we call home have shaped our breeding standard and are the proving ground for selecting our bloodstock.  We strive to breed beautiful dogs of athletic, performance conformation, uncommon drive,  stylish intensity on point, and tractability rooted in a deep desire to please.

It is both our passion and our privilege to further the Blizzard line of Llewellin grouse dogs, standing on the shoulders of friends and mentors Joe and Lori Noe of Blandinsville, Illinois.  Our dogs trace to Llewellins bred here in London, Kentucky, by Mr. Bob Johnson, dating back to the 1930's and the patronage of noted sportsman, Dr. H.D. Ersig of Toledo, Ohio.  From those classic Blizzard dogs and our own foundation setters, the great Awbonnies Bull, Huntmore's Bleu Spice, and Lord Tobyn Bondhu, Blizzard's Huntmore Llewellin setters are bred by our family to be part of yours in the field and at fireside.

Blizzard's Huntmore Parker (FDSB# 1670496)

Parker is a 55 lb. athlete of great drive and yet uncommon tractability, a natural talent who is anxious to please every time out.  He has that classic chiseled head of "The Old Ones," with a deep muzzle and pronounced stop.  His bite is correct; his conformation is built for all-day performance in our rugged mountains.  Parker goes to his birds with great confidence and points with crackling intensity, a perfect example of the Blizzard Llewellins bred by Joe and Lori Noe, tracing back to the great setter gun dogs bred here in London, Kentucky, by Joe's mentor, Mr. Bob Johnson.  Parker is also available at stud by private treaty to select females.

Blizzard's Huntmore Laurel (#1670524)

Laurel sports a classic look and build, high style on point and a beautifully masked tri-color head. Weighing 38 lbs., her build and body are exceedingly well-balanced with a square head and muzzle, tight feet and tail set high upon the back as it should be. Naturally staunch early on with a good nose and high tail on point, Laurel has plenty of desire to find game and to hunt to the gun. She  moves with good speed with a light-footed gait that can go all day.  This is a highly anticipated mating that should satisfy the most discriminating upland hunting gundog enthusiast.

Looking at Blizzard's Huntmore Bella and the Rock, the female and male selected for the Jacobs' family's first Llewellin setter litter of 2019, there's the excitement that always comes with breeding a top notch female to a male likewise in talent and background.  

First of all, these two young dogs pass the look test.  Athletes, both of them, nicely gaited, with Bella's robust frame and the Rock's coiled spring physique built to go all day in our tough mountain coverts.  Classic heads, beautiful tail sets, pleasing markings - each of them the total physical package.

In terms of performance, both Bella and Rock have earned high marks in Eric's work with them, each showing excellent ability in the bird field, the Rock, especially, seeming to own what Eric believes is an extraordinary nose.  When asked what he means by that assessment, he's quick to answer.

"Just little things," Eric says.  "A nose and the brains to use it. They must work together.  Typical for Rock to wind birds(pigeons )and point at often far greater distance than most dogs. Sometimes double. He's smart about how he uses the wind and goes about his business high headed."

Eric notes that,  "Yesterday I had a frozen quail at the kennel for retrieving with a client dog. Rock stood on his hind legs trying to locate it when I laid it up high. He even started whining!" 

And then there's the blood.  Bella, a Blizzard royal heir from the heart of the Noe family's Shoeleather kennel, the Rock, likewise from one of the strongest, proven nicks in the "new Huntmore" program, a Parker x Dixie son, Shoeleather on the top side of his pedigree, Old School Huntmore through Bleu, Toby, and Bull on the bottom with a strong two lines to Highway Dan.  Parker x Dixie continue to impress as early bloomers who develop naturally with great drive on the hunt, crackling intensity on point, and a strong instinct to retrieve.
